Off to Cali

We are headed back to California. Just a quick trip to see our family and friends and go to the A's opening night. We are very excited. Brody got his first cold so I'm a little nervous about the airplane. The Dr. said it should be ok so I'll just keep my fingers crossed. We get back on Wednesday and Ang is coming to visit on Thursday. I can't wait, I miss her so much. I've decided she has to move to Texas too. Hope everyone has a nice weekend.

Old Video

I was cleaning up our picture and video files and I found this clip that I forgot to post. It's from when Brody first started trying baby food. He is a really good eater. Shasta still begs for his food which I think is funny and a little strange.

The gym has been pretty good so far. I went to the Yoga class yesterday which was a little harder. It might be because I have never done Yoga before so it was new to my body. I'm really really really sore today (it hurts to breathe) so I'm probably going to take the day off. Brody seems to enjoy going, both days he has cried when I put him in the car to leave. I would way rather him cry when we are leaving then when I'm dropping him off.

I did the unthinkable...

I joined the gym. For those of you who don't know me very well, I HATE the gym. I do not enjoy working out what so ever. But in order to lose the last of my baby weight and get ready for our trip to Mexico I decided to bite the bullet and join. Today was my first day going. I decided to do one of the classes they offer. So at 10:30 a.m. I did their Pilates class. I hate to admit it but it really wasn't that bad. I actually kind of enjoyed it. The Pilates class was very dance oriented so it was right up my alley and I felt really good at the end of it. They have a kids center so I was able to bring Brody with me. He played in the kids area and I did an hour long class. I think it is good for Brody to socialize with other kids and it gave me an hour to do something for myself. Tomorrow is Yoga. Lets see if I can keep it up.

Happy Easter

Happy Easter everyone. Brody is 8 months old today. I can't believe how fast he is changing from a baby to a little boy. He is just growing so much. He pulls himself up and stands everywhere. He really wants to walk but I think it's going to be a little while before he can do that. I know he is too little to really understand Easter but I decided to do something anyway. He got a small basket with a bunny, a rubber ducky and some Easter eggs shaped like sports balls. He loved the football and the baseball, go figure. We had a pretty lazy day I made eggs Benedict and mimosas for Mark and I. We watched the basketball tournament and just hung around the house all day. Nothing too exciting but it felt great to just veg, especially after being sick.

Here he is getting his Easter Basket.

I just love that face!

His new thing is sharing. He loves to offer you the toy he is playing with and then he likes you to give it right back.

It definitely didn't take him long to figure out how to open up those eggs.

Sisters

We had a very fun and busy weekend. Followed by a miserable Wednesday. I was sick all day. I spent the majority of the morning throwing up and then the rest of the day in bed. I'm feeling a little better today so I'm hoping it was just some 24 hour bug. And no I'm not pregnant. Anyway back to our fun weekend. My baby sister came to visit me. She has never come to see me by herself so we really took advantage of the one on one quality time together. She flew in late on Friday night around 12:30 a.m. Saturday we got up and made breakfast and then headed out to the Salt Lick in Driftwood. For those of you who don't know, the Salt Lick it's a great little BBQ place out in the middle of no where. You can bring your own cooler of beer because they are in a dry county. We headed out there around two. There was live music and it was a gorgeous day so we just sat outside, ate really yummy BBQ and enjoyed the atmosphere. After that we headed home and relaxed the rest of the afternoon. Then Kelley and I headed into downtown Austin. It was South by South West this weekend so downtown was packed. We had a late dinner at a cute little Tapas restaurant then decided to head to 6th street to check out the action. We found a bar that had a great band playing. They were outside on a deck so we were able to snag a bench where we could enjoy the music and people watch. It was one of the funnest nights I have had in Austin. On Sunday Mark had signed us up to volunteer with the United Way so we headed to a local YMCA to help with their annual Easter Fair. We ended up being in charge of the face painting booth. Which we thought would be fairly easy until the first little girl sat down and asked me to paint Tinker Bell on her cheek. Hmmm I'm pretty creative but I didn't even know where to begin. We did get a few more random requests for a tractor, a dragon, a cow and the YMCA symbol. Overall it was a lot of fun. It was a great little event they had food, art and crafts, an Easter Egg Hunt and a petting zoo, which was Brody's favorite. The rest of the visit was pretty mellow. Kelley and I spent all day Monday shopping and running errands. We made dinner at home and just hung around talking and catching up. I loved it! Here are some pictures from the weekend.

These first three pictures are from our afternoon at the Salt Lick.

Here we are at the Easter Fair. The petty zoo had, bunnies, goats, chickens and a pony. Brody loved it.

This was Brody on Tuesday. This was supposed to be his St. Patty's day outfit but he ended up wearing it a day late.

Happy Anniversary

Today my parents have been married for 32 years. We wanted to wish them a happy anniversary. They are such an inspiration to me. I know it sounds kind of corny but I hope that Mark and I can be as in love as they are after be together for so long. I came across some fun pictures of them. Love you mom and dad!

I think Sydna looks just like my mom and I look just like my dad and Kelley is a perfect mix of them both.

They were meant for the snow!

Still madly in love!

And then there were two

Brody's second tooth finally came in. We had a ruff night a few days ago and I'm pretty sure it was because of the tooth. I took some cute pictures of him this morning and you can kind of see the tooth in the first one. It's the best I could do, he doesn't really want me anywhere near his mouth right now. I don't blame him.

You can just see the second tooth if you look real close. (and yes that is Shasta's ear, he wanted to be in the picture too)

He almost looks like he is trying to show me his teeth.

So cute I just love him so much!

Clearly when his top teeth come in we will have no problem getting a picture!

Baby Talk

Brody has really been talking lately. It's so funny. He just sits and babbles to himself. I keep trying to get him to say mama but everything he says sounds like dada. Oh well it's all cute to me. He'll have to say mama eventually right?

Crawfish Boil

So for wonderful Wednesday last week we attended our first ever Crawfish Boil. It was a lot of fun. Mark has had crawfish before but it was a new thing for me. We went down to San Marcos to Shane's house. They did everything outside on the patio. They boil the crawfish with potatoes, corn on the cob and creole seasoning. There was also warm bread which is never a bad thing. It all gets dumped onto a long table and you dig in. You pull the tail off and getting the meat out is a lot like pealing a shrimp. Then you have the option of sucking the head to get all the juices out. Mark tried it while I stuck to the tails. It was all really good. Abbey took pictures and I asked her to send me a few so I can add them to the blog. In the mean time here are a couple of the pictures from last weekend.

Here we all are at dinner. Emily, Derek, Mark, Liz, Me and Alan.

This one is the same but our waiter decided to join the picture.

Busy Weekend

We had a great but very busy weekend. Mark's little brother Alan, one of his oldest friends Derek, his roommates Emily and her sister Liz all came to visit this weekend. Alan just came to see us and Brody or should I say Brody and us. Derek and the girls came to volunteer with the Obama campaign. Derek, Emily and Liz flew in on Friday and headed straight to San Antonio for a rally. Alan got in at around 9pm. Brody and I dropped Mark and Alan off downtown and then Derek and the girls met up with them a little later. After having such a long day Derek and the girls came back to the house around 1am. I was still up so we visited until Mark and Alan got home later. Everyone had way too much fun and we didn't end up going to bed until almost 4am. What was I thinking? I had to get up with Brody at 6am. Well I survived and once Mark got up I was actually able to go back to sleep for a little while. On Saturday we took everyone out for BBQ. You can't come to Texas and not have authentic Texas BBQ. It was really yummy and we all ate way too much. After that Mark, Alan and Brody came back to the house and the rest of us decided to go see a movie. We went to this place called the Alamo Draft House, it was very cool. You can order food and drinks (yes even alcoholic drinks) and they bring them to you. It's set up kind of like a regular movie theater but the seats have skinny tables in front of them with menus. We didn't have anything like this in California so it was something new and a lot of fun. We saw Vantage Point which I would recommend waiting to rent instead of seeing it in the theater. Then it was back to the house to shower and get ready for dinner. We decided to go into Austin. Our friends Tim and Shara watched Brody for us. It was the first time we have left Brody with anyone but the grandparents. Tim and Shara are the only people we have met so far that we really trust with Brody and who live close. It was really nice of them to watch him. Especially since they just moved into a brand new house on Wednesday and have about a million other things to do. Anyway we headed into Austin and went to eat at a cool little place called Shady Grove. It's nothing fancy but it has a great atmosphere. The weather was beautiful this weekend so we were able to sit outside. The staff was so much fun and we ended up having a blast. Originally we were going to go out to some bars on 6th street but we decided to head back home (I missed Brody). We ended up playing Apples to Apples (if you haven't played I highly recommend it) and drinking some nice wines. Again we had way too much fun and stayed up way too late. Derek and the girls got up and left Sunday morning and we had a very lazy day watching movies and recovering from our crazy weekend. Alan left on Monday and we miss everyone already. We really enjoyed having a full house for the weekend. Now we have this weekend off and then my sister Kelley is coming to visit on the 14th. We can't wait! We were really bad about pictures this weekend. I only got one of Alan and Brody and then the girls got one of all of us at dinner so hopefully they will send it to me and I can add it to the blog.
